Rotary Community Groups are a key component of Regionalisation. The role of the Community Leader is to work with club leadership, to develop and deliver growth plans that best suit each Group, and a growth plan is our best way to create lasting impact.

What do you see as the strength of a Rotary Community Group?

A Rotary Community Group brings clubs that share an area, or a theme, together. Working together has many achievements. Larger team, greater diversity of skills, and a shared workload. When the project or activity goes public, Rotary in their community is larger than any one club. The role of the Rotary Community Leader is coach and guide the leaders of the clubs, as it is the clubs and the members who create and deliver the projects that meet the needs of their Community Groups.

What is your experience with a Rotary Community Group and a Rotary Community Leader?

I have been a Rotary Community Leader. When the positions were first established, I saw the opportunity to work beyond my club in a new type of dynamic setting. I saw the opportunity to scale our projects for bigger impact by drawing on our strengths as a group.  The concept of regionalisation is to test a way for communities that know what they need to draw in what they need, without the hierarchy that can be part of the structures Rotary has adopted over the 120+ years since Paul Harris conceived the idea of an organisation representative of many vocations, working for the community.

If I’m in an area and I’m not sure who my Rotary Community Leader (RCL) is, what can I do?

Firstly, check with your Club President or your current Governor – RCLs typically focus their efforts on working with your club leaders.

The role is about actions and activity, so you may not have met your RCL (in-person or online!).

There are some areas that do not have an RCL, and that might be your club, please send me an email with your club name and we can assist you, whilst we find a replacement RCL in the meantime.
